Amazing Adventure Club

You reach a point in this crazy life we lead in Singapore where you find yourself straddling your life back home and your life here.  It is a fine line of reliving your stories of past with friends (who don't know your life back home) and creating new stories in this place we now live life.

So to this point, my new friends in Singapore, I am fairly certain, grew weary of me reliving accounts of our fabulous "Adventure Club" in Hartland, Wisconsin.  Adventure Club was born from an evening many years ago that shall for the most part remain a secret.  Without going into many details, Adventure Club originated from a group of very fun people who wanted to up the ante.  The goal?  A memorable adventure for 7 couples who would do crazy and fun things as a group....with no boundaries.

So after hearing my stories and longing for the adventures I was missing, my group of girls here in Singapore rallied and collectively decided to forge our own version.  "Amazing Adventure Club" was born last spring when we decided to go on a tree top ropes course to celebrate Mother's Day.  OK...you are probably thinking why not a more traditional approach?  Lunch, mani/pedi??  Well, this group of ladies fits the bill for taking an "adventure" over a day of self-indulgence.

One notable change for our new "club" is that we are husband-less.  Well....that is the nature of the lives we lead.  Most of our hubbies are all over the globe and it takes some monumental scheduling to ever get them all in the same country on the same day.  SO ... this is the life we lead, and we try to make the best of it!

Adventure #1:  Ski 360 - a manmade pool of water with a circular cable that pulls you around on wakeboard, skis or kneeboard.

He copied my move!

Just kidding....this was my move

Celebratory lunch at the hawker centre

Hawker food...yum!

Adventure #2:  Kayaking....I was in Cambodia so missed this one.

Adventure #3:  Sledding in Singapore - an oxymoron I realize, but we take what we can get for "getting in the holiday spirit!"

Yes....that is incredibly fake plastic-y "snow."  But it was cold and we did have to rent those smelly winter jackets and pants that have been worn by thousands of people.

OK...it was about 100 yards of gentle downslope...we HAD to make things up!

Adventure #4:  Marine Corp drills - yes a certain someone had a certain connection with the local Marines...ouch!

Adventure #5:  a trick from Hartland....paintball!  I don't think I am lying when I say there were some nerves going into this.  However, pure adrenaline rushes through you and you just GO!  We had many many injuries....a chunk of knee gouged out, welts, bruises, blood, etc. etc.  It was hot and sweaty....but 2 hours flew by like it was 10 minutes!

Nice mommies....

Mean mommies....

Vanessa with precision fire

Me looking awfully exposed!

As we took a look at the war wounds after the last battle, the most unexpected words came out of Keri's mouth, "I want a bruise like Vanessa's."  Now mind you, Vanessa had 2 matching bruises on each arm that each had a red ring an inch in diameter surrounded by a 3 inch diameter black & bruise...(can't wait to see what those look like the next day!)  So what does a good friend say?  "OK - I'll shoot you!"

With one paint pellet in the canister Vanessa makes her mark

Keri...."Ouch!"
So to my dear friends back home who have kept the tradition going....I am doing my part to spread adventure throughout the world:-)  Keri already has a group of friends who have started an adventure club in Houston, and Katie will be taking the tradition with her on their new assignment in Germany!

Hoping bruises heal quickly S'pore friends.....until the next one.....
